Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
April 29, 2006
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida

Fishing is great right now! For the last two weeks the fishing has steadily improved to the poing that just about anybody can catch fish....that is unless your from "peariver". Had an eleven year old catching spanish just about every cast two weeks ago with a boat drifting next to us not catching a thing. I could tell that this was one of those "great fisherman" that likes to post things on the internet but honestly they just couldn't put anything in thier boat. Guess you should go back to fishing school.

Anyway. Yesterday the bay "lit up" and for as far as you could see there were spanish jumping and crashing baits, blue runners boiling the water, huge schools of ladyfish and a bunch of really big blues. Had four guys on the boat, three tossing bubble rigs and one fly fishing. All caught spanish and all got what I call the NW Florida trash can slam: blue, lady and bluerunner. They easily caught over 100 fish during thier four hour trip.

Further up in the bays the flounder are piling up if you want to go gigging. I offer gigging trips if your interested. Trout and reds are becoming active. Haven't seen many really big trout yet this year but that should change along with the warmer weather.

All in all, it's time to go fishing 'cause it's perfect right now and should stay this way for a few weeks. When the topwater action falls of the bait will be thick and then it will be time for live bait fishing. I really expect to see a great year of fishing. Everything seems to be coming together...lot's of bait, clear water and a good migration of the palegics.

Call and book your trip, it's never to soon.

Good luck and see you on the water. JP

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
