Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
June 19, 2006
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida

Before I start talking about what's been going on, let me just say that overall fishing has been good. On a really good year my clients lose big fish or good fish and then get another chance at them. This year (so far) is there are some good fish to catch but if you miss a chance you may not get another. Reds for instance....used to having days where we put 10 or 12 in the boat on a regular basis....this year two or three has been a good day.

There have been some bright spots. Ax handle spanish are thick in the bay this year. Had seven a week ago that went well over thirty pounds...four of them were over 6lbs with one measuring 28 inches at the fork. We are also seeing good numbers of flounder this year and they seem to be big. We have had several the last week or two in the 5lb range.

The last four or five days has been very good and I think we can look forward to a really good mid to end of the summer run of fish. Reds are showing up, flounder and trout are becoming easy to catch and the big flounder are around.

Book your trip well in advance as I am very busy this year.

Thanks and see you on the water.

JP
