Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
September 18, 2006
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida

The trout and reds continue to show up in the bay and recover from last years red tide. We have put some trout in the boat up to six pounds but the really big ones have been somewhat elusive this year. I have managed to find a few schools of reds here and there catching them when possible. With no sign of red tide so far I believe the fishing for these two species will continue to get better and everything could be back to normal by spring.

Large schools of big spanish have moved into the bay with 20 to 30 a trip being common. These fish average around three pounds with a few each day inthe five and six pound range. We had one last week that was close to seven.

Night trips have been wonderful Floundering has been a bit slow but we hope that as October get's here the fish start to move more. Shark fishing has been great. Catching a lot of 50 to 100 pound black tips and sands.

Last week was one of the most beautiful weeks for night fishing I can remember. Clear and crisp, as we worked flounder around the backside of the island away from the city lights, the milky way and the entire sky was lit up. A few shooting stars here and there along with a fish in the box makes for a memorable experience.

If you want to experience something like this or catch some fish on the fall migration give me a call.

I will in Belize fishing for bones and poons on the fly from September 27th through October 1st and will not be able to book charters. Hope to hear from you for other dates.

See you on the water.

Capt. James Pic
