Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
April 16, 2007
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida

FEATHERS

She was born under a trailer off of Peanut Road in Cottondale Florida just after New Years 1994. She knocked four other pups out of the way to get to me. I knew she was the one and as the years went by there was never a doubt that I got the best of the litter.

She fell into a culvert when she was six weeks old, almost died on that day. At eight weeks when I took her home I had no idea she would be afraid of the water. What? A lab afraid of the water?

Our love for each other grew those first six months and she wanted nothing more than to please her master that eventually became her best friend. Through her love and trust in me, jumped off the boat into the water and retrieved hundreds of ducks in her career.

Back in the day when the dove fields at Tyndall were full of birds and the flocks of ducks were like the mosquitos in West Bay we began to share a love and friendship that lasted well over thirteen years.

Always eager to please and never giving up on a downed bird, all that hunted with her knew she had the heart of a champion.

She was much more than a bird dog though, with me through my divorce always my friend never questioning decisions that I made; good or bad. Always at the door with that tail going back and forth when I came home. I loved that dog with all of my heart and all of you that read my reports and have hunted with Feathers know how easy it was to admire her.

Time has taken her from me, I had to let her go today. Not for me, for her, because of all of the pain she endured each day due to her old bones and arthritis.

I know that there is a god and in my heaven Feathers and I will be hunting ducks in the morning and throwing topwater all afternoon for eternity. Anyone that has never experienced the love of an animal like Feathers is missing out on one of the true joys of life.

Good bye old friend, until we meet again.
