Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
Been catching 30 to 50 specks each trip out lately. Using DOA Shrimp fishing in three to five foot of water the trout bite has been hot. A few reds here and there with the big redfish months starting in May.
Out in the big bay, the spanish are still thick along with a lot of small bluefish. There is a lot of bait already this year and we spottet our first bait ball of the year yesterday. Over the next few weeks the ladyfish should start showing up in the bay which makes for a good time for the fly fisherman. We caught our first blue runner of the year yesterday which means everything should start heating up.
Along the beach the cobia run was in full force last week with a lot of fish being caught. Pompano have been thick on some days...as always, the rougher the better.
I had some customers today that caught about 40 trout and then we went into the big bay and caught spanish and blues. All of this in a four hour trip. These same guys went with one of my competitors yesterday and were very unhappy that they fished an entire day and only caught three fish. I know this person and he is not from the area but has been lying on his fishing reports as to his abilities. I have said it before....there are some great guides in the area, myself, Greg Burnette, Jeff Morman and a few others but stay away from the weekend warriors and especially stay away from the guys that moved here recently got a licensce and decided to be a guide. The suck, plain and simple and your not going to be happy.
Thanks for all the support of the last eleven years. Fishing this year looks like it's going to be great. All indications from the kind of spring we have had is that this could be a banner year in the bay. Book your trip early.
Thank you and see you on the water.
Capt. James Pic
