Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
WINTER "HALF AND HALF" FROM SEPTEMBER 15TH THRU MARCH 1ST, BOOK TWO CONSECUTIVE HALF DAY TRIPS, PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE FIRST HALF DAY AND GET THE SECOND HALF DAY AT HALF PRICE.
I also have my 17 foot boat up and running if you want me to pole you around the shallow water. This boat is for two people or less, fly and artificial baits only.
The fishing has been good when you have time to wipe the sweat from your brow. Hottest summer I can remember on the water in six or seven years. The trout and redfish bite has been good all summer.
Caz Pruitt from North Carolina, long time client, showing off a nice red caught on a DOA Shrimp.
Speaking of DOA...they are the original "scent impregnated" bait and still the best out there. I was using Gulps before they were released to be sold in the stores. The reps would stop by my store and give me some to use. I like them but the trash fish tear them up in the summer months. I'll take a DOA free lined or under a popping cork any day. Another good bait you may want to look at that we have had success with this year are the Creme 3" swim baits. Haven't found them around Panama City but if you get a chance to pick some up they are great for big trout under a Cajun Thunder as this next photo proves.
The best fishing of the year is starting. We went scouting today. My partner had a huge flounder up to the boat before he shook off....oh well, sometimes the fish win...right Ray?
There are still a lot of trout and reds on the flats. Swim baits, DOA Shrimp, live bait and clouser minnows for the fly fisherman are working great. This fishing trend is unlikely to change for at least another month, maybe two. The fall flounder run is just around the corner.
I hope some of my old customers as well as new ones take advantage of the special rate for the winter. Thanks for a great year and all the people that called to book me that couldn't get on my boat; try again next year and call earlier.
Thanks and see you on the water.
