Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

PANAMA CITY/NW FLORIDA
WINTER SPECIAL: BOOK A HALF DAY AND GET THE NEXT HALF DAY AT HALF PRICE. GOOD THRU MARCH 15TH 2008
With the new fronts passing the fish will move off the flats and into the bayous and creeks. Last week, while duck hunting, we watched a lot of trout and reds chasing shrimp on the flats. With the passing of these two fronts the majority should move.
I grew up fishing trout and reds in the bayous and creeks and can put you on a fish all winter. Some of our best fish come in the winter. I have also managed to find some spots that hold black sea bass and whiting along with other species not common in the summer months. There are fish to catch all winter....and then there is Warren Bayou, hot water canal, fish stack up.
I was in Mexico a week ago fishing. I didn't get my permit, maybe next time. I'll put a comprehensive report about the trip and resort on my next posting. Here's a picture of a bone I took.
DUCK HUNTING
So far the season has been great. We actually saw a tundra swan on Deerpoint Lake yesterday. There are a lot of ducks both in fresh and saltwater. Could be the best migration since the mid 90's...course I'm the only guide that was hunting around here in the mid 90's. Below is a picture of Josh Wookcock from Dothan holding a pair of redheads taken over the weekend.
All in all, I'm expecting a great duck year. Fishing is always good in the winter whether on the fly, casting or live bait.
Hope to hear from you, have a happy Holidays.
Capt. James Pic
