Seeing Red in Panama City,FL

Capt. Todd Jones
June 17, 2013
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been great the last week or so. When the weather cooperates we head offshore and fish for the elusive and endangered Red Snapper. I think we only missed getting our limit once this season so far(we can't all be perfect). Along with the Red Snapper are lots of Vermillion, White and Lane Snapper. The bait of choice for me has been fresh Bonito. It stays on the hook a lot longer than cigar minnows so you get more than one chance at nibbling Snapper. The White and Vermillion prefer squid on a double hook rig. Don't forget to throw a flat line out with a light piece of wire and a cigar minnow or a Spanish sardine for a King Mackerel.

On the days we can't get offshore we are catching Red fish in the pass. Live pilchards seem to be what they prefer right now. The schools are hanging really tight together so when we get on them it is not uncommon to get 3 or 4 on at the same time.

More Fishing Reports:

Capt. Todd has been fishing the Gulf Coast for over 40 years and guiding for 30 years. He is a second generation fishing guide. While serving his country for 22 years as a Navy Diver he was able to fish all over the world. In his travels he has fished the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean and the Sea of Cortez. But in his opinion nothing compares to the diversity we have here in the Emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
