September brings fall bass patterns, hopes of winter crappie.

Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bay and gulf fishery is great and getting better. There is, however, another fishery here in the panhandle that will attract fishermen from all over.
I grew up fishing Deer Point Lake, Gap Pond, Porter Pond and the Sandhill Ponds. Bass fishing in all of these places is very good. Just like other lakes throughout the south the spring spawn for bass is hot in Northwest Florida and around Panama City. I have seen 10lb. plus fish come out of Deerpoint through the years. Fishing the same as anywhere else; Texas or Carolina rigged worms and lizards, spinner baits, crankbaits and topwater will produce good fish.
Fly fishing on Deerpoint for brim and shellcracker is very good also.
Later this winter as the temps cool down the water I will spend as many days as I can fishing for crappie on Deerpoint. Another good place to crappie fish are certain areas of the Choctawhatchee River.
I plan on devoting more time to bass fishing running guided trips for those that want to catch a big Florida bass or some crappie. I know many of the lakes in the area very well, artificial colors and baits that work well.

Duck Season
Teal have been moving through the area at a slow pace. We saw a lot more last year in August than we have over the last few weeks. Hopefully this is an indication of a late migration just in time for the early season at the end of September. I have one day available for the early teal and wood duck season. Call me if your interested.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Fishing throughout the Panhandle has been good. The lakes, bays and offshore are producing lot's of fish.
This can be the best time of the year to fish the area.
Flounder will be on the move by the end of September.

Target Species:

Let's go fishing and see what happens!

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
