Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

This was a week for the kids. We spent some time in West Bay early in the week and ended up in the "big bay" this morning.
West Bay is holding a lot of trout of all sizes. The water is brown with a lot of fresh mixed in. Finding bigger fish that will bite is a little tough. The water is clearing with each day and the fishing gets better. We saw a couple of schools of reds early in the week but couldn't get them to eat. Later in the week we saw singles and doubles putting DOA and Gulps! in front of them with no bites. Good thing is I know where they are when they decide to turn on! This first picture is of Collin from Wisconsin and his first trout ever.

The Spanish fishing has been hit and miss. I get a lot of good info from people fishing the point each morning. Some days it's good and some days bad. Same in the bay. We catch a lot on some days and only a few on others. The blues are mixed in with them along with some hard tails that are showing up. Seems like the fish are here but the color of the water has hindered the bite. Here's photo's of Lake with his first spanish and a couple at the end of the day. The next photo is of Jared with his first spanish.

We tried to get out for cobia a couple of times this week but each time the water has been rough and dirty. Hopefully we will get after them in the next couple of days.
Last, to make a point of how wierd the weather has been take a look at this late April fog bank hanging just off the beach. Unusual.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

The water is clearing and the bait is showing up. I have started fishing with live bait. The spanish are showing up, not in big numbers just yet, but showing up.
The flats should start to get hot with the water cleaning up for both trout and reds. Seeing a lot of reds this spring.
The pompano are here but hard to see in the brown water.
Everything is good we just need the water to flush a little more so it can be great.
Target Species:

Anything that swims
