Big spanish, summertime trout and reds.

Capt. James Pic
May 29, 2008
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

If anybody tells your there are more exciting fish in the bay to catch than a 5, 6 or 7 pound spanish on 8lb. test they are mistaken. There isn't a redfish out there that will stretch a line better than a spanish of the same size. Of course, along with the spanish, we hook blacktip sharks, blues, ladies, banded rudderfish and many other species.
The last few days we have been destoying the spanish catching many in the five pound plus size. This will continue throughout the summer. We haven't landed that first shark yet but that should be just around the corner. Fifty pound sharks have the advantage when fishing with 8 and 10 pound test. Here are some pictures from the last few days.

Some days we hit the trout first and then go after the reds. Some of my trout spots are hot just now, wish I could get pictures of the ones that get away.

Haven't spent much time looking for reds lately but they are pretty easy to find if you want to go catch a few.
The St. Andrew Guides Assocition is hard at it trying to make sure that you get the best fishing trip for your money. Local guides, all competant and able to put you on inshore and offshore fish. You will be able to see our website soon at: PanamaCityFloridaFishingGuides.com
We have the ability to put together multiple boat trips as we have already. If I can't put you on my boat I can set you up with one of several other guides in our association.

There is more to fishing around here than sitting on one spot in the middle of the bay catching little blue fish. If that's what you have been doing, give me a call and let me show some good fish on light tackle.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Panama City and catch fish while your here.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

The big spanish will continue throughout the summer. They get bigger and bigger with some approaching 8lbs. The only fish I have ever caught the comes close to a spanish ripping line is a bonefish.
The trout bite is still hot with fish showing up in my favorite spots. This is the time of year we can start catching the big trophy fish, those over six, seven and eight.
One of my favorites this time of year are the blacktips. 50 plus pound sharks that jump and spin when hooked.
Fishing is good and we can target all species this time of year.
I will be going king fishing starting next week.

Target Species:

Everything that swims.

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
