Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

OK...so it's been a slow March. For all of you wanting to know why my post's have been down. Between the weather and having a case of the creeping crud I haven't been out as much as usual. I have scouted and been in touch with some of the guides I work with and even though a few reds are being caught in the pass the sheeps have not moved in. I look for that to change next week.

April is a great month to fish here. Looks like the sheepshead bite, the spanish run and the cobia will all show up together this year. If we can avoid the rains that plagued us last spring we should have a great early season. Spanish are sensitive the freshwater run off and will avoid us it the salinity isn't just right. Look for the spanish to show up the first week of April.
Trout and reds. I get some grief because of what I say about my ability to put clients on trout and reds. Truth be told, I talk to and see other peoples catches all year, no one comes close to what I do with those two species. Take a look at a few of the trout put in the boat last spring. During April and May we had more than 20 fish over 5lbs, many of those over six, come into the boat. One day we had to let a couple of five pound trout go because we already had out limit. This ability is nothing more than close to 40 years of fishing these bays and knowing where these big fish hang. If you are looking to catch a trophy trout this year, there is no one guiding that is more qualified than I to put you on that fish. The great thing about trout fishing this time of year is the redfish that come along as a "bycatch"....lol
