The best thing about fishing with Ray......

Capt. James Pic
July 24, 2009
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

My long time and regular customer "4lb" Ray was back on the boat today. Ray is a curios guy...keeps a trout or flounder every now and then. Today he kept a shark filet...wanted to try it. Most of the time he just wants to bait fish for whatever is biting. With Ray...the bigger the fish the lighter the line. Watching Ray catch big fish on the light line is one of the best things about fishing with him. He had to get out and get him some of those big spanish that have been piling into the bay. I didn't disappoint...putting him on fish after fish with fish boiling around the boat.

Another great thing about fishing with Ray; since it's just us two I get to fish a little. Today was a day for me. Even though Ray got some good fish, the fish that hit my ly around 0900 this morning couldn't have been landed on 4lb test. Luckily I had the big line on one of my custom St. Croix livebaiting rods, 10lb P-line. Best line ever. We were fishing one of the ledges in the bay when a smoker....30lbs. plus ate my bait. The fight lasted about 20 minutes with the fish getting in the boat. We catch kings in the bay every now and then but this was the biggest I have ever seen caught in the bay. I normally don't put a picture of myself on my reports but today is an exception.

Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Spanish continue to pile into the bay. That's the hot bite.
For those that don't want spanish trout and reds are cooperating on the flats.
Kings on the beach and in the bay.
Sharks of all sizes in the bay.

Target Species:

Anything that swims

More Fishing Reports:

Sight casting fly and spinning for reds, trout, bonita, spanish, jacks and many other species. Live bait trips available as well as hot topwater action in the bay around Panama City, Florida. Depending on the time of the year I can normally put you on legal grouper in the bay, monster speckled trout, lot's of fly fishing action and just about everything else that swims and good tablefare.
