Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Took a day for me today. Invited my brother Jeff, Ray and my gal Micki to go get some of those kings we caught the other day and look for some mahi mahi. The day started cool with a beautiful sunrise.

The wind changed with the front a few days ago ushering in high pressure over the area and for the most part has made fishing a little tougher. There was a lot less bait at the whistle bouy today than a few days ago and the bite was a little off. We missed a bunch of short strikers so the action was not that bad. We freelined baits for a couple of hours, missing one here and there and eventually putting three in the boat. No mahi to be seen.

Unlike other species that frequent our area, like tarpon, kings can be caught just about every day no matter what the conditions. That's one of the reasons I like to fish for them. I gave up chasing tarpon around here a long time ago because you can look at fish for days on end without getting a bite.
Every now and then we get lucky while off shore, finding a weed patch or line and get into some nice mahi. Basically, if you want to go outside and catch something more than trout and reds I can put you on some kings.
Panama City Fishing Forecast:

Kings off the beach. Reds and trout on the flats for live bait, artificial, topwater and fly.
Spanish and blues thick in the bay on chum lines, artificial and fly.
Target Species:

You can get anything this time of year. That will last thru summer.
