Destin, Navarre, Pensacola Florida inshore fishing report

Capt. Eddie Woodall
April 17, 2011
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Oh the month of May; I've been asked a bunch of times what's my favorite time of the year to come fishing – well now's the time!!! April was awesome this year, the weather has been in our favor for the last six weeks and the fishing (catching) has been great.

I just love it when the Gator Specks get on their top water bite. When a big speck blows up on a dog walking plug its pure excitement! Lots of fish are up on the grass flats and there are some real nice fish being caught. I'll start out the day throwing a dog walking plug, then go to the sub-surface type baits. Pretty much all you have to do is go and you'll catch Specks right now.

Slot Red Fish in the bay are being caught all over the place. Fly casters are getting some fantastic shots at nice red fish following schools of mullet on the sand flats. Then after the sun gets high, go to the shaded areas around the docks.

Spanish Mackerel are invading the grass flats also, if you get cut off, up your leader size and go with it. I've been catching some of the biggest Spanish this season that I've ever seen this early in the season.

The beach is just a mad house right now, lots of Pompano are showing up, schools of Bull Red Fish are still out there, Slot sized Red Fish are out there eating up the sand fleas. Big schools of Jack Crevalle are cruising down the beach and talk about some MAD top water action, this is it! The Spanish mackerel and Blue fish have made their presence out there too.

Just off the beach, King Mackerel are showing up, along with the migrating Cobia. This Cobia season has been very good to excellent, lots of forty to fifty pound fish being caught with several fish tipping the scales over ninety pounds.

So in a short, just get out there and enjoy what the spring time has to offer. If you're not catching --- give me a call I'll see if I can help ya out. Be safe out there……….

The great outdoors is like an unlimited television station which through God speaks to us every day --- the only problem is that there are too many people out there that don't get this channel!! Come on people TUNE IN.

Be Blessed,
Capt. Eddie
