Fall Brings Big Fish to Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Acadmey

Capt. John Rivers
October 14, 2012
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Saltwater Fishing Academy – Pensacola Inshore Fishing – Capt. John Rivers

It was a neap tide again on Friday and Saturday, but that's ok, fish can still be caught so don't let that keep you from splashing your boat or hiring a guide. You just have to work points and drop-offs more thoroughly. Slow down your presentation and try to entice the predatory strikes with top-water plugs and scented jerk baits. I've fished many neap tides and have done pretty well. I usually prefer water that's moving, but even when conditions aren't the most ideal, it is still great to get out there for the challenge and the fun of it!

If you're new to this site and have not read my reports in the past, welcome and let me say thanks in advance for stopping by.

I've started a new style of inshore fishing classroom on the water called Saltwater Fishing Academy. I've been an inshore guide in Pensacola for the past 9 years and I have been fishing fresh and saltwater for over 30 years. While running my regular inshore charter business, I've taken hundreds of visiting and local anglers and their families fishing. We will go out and go after fish that are typically "in season" and are pretty much a sure thing to snag on a hook. These trips are a blast for the families and even for the more experienced angler. But I've also had some trips when the anglers asked a lot of questions and wanted me to show them how to fish the local waters and explain how to rig rods, choose baits, and learn how tides affect the bite. That's where Saltwater Fishing Academy comes in.

It is an opportunity for one to three anglers to really get schooled, but in a good way! I will provide a teaching environment where I will present many techniques and habits that will improve your fishing aptitude. I mainly use artificials, but if you want live bait on the boat, that's no problem, we can do that. I'll customize the fishing trip to fit your needs. Let me know the night before and I will pick it up that morning or I can show you how easy it is to catch it with the cast net on our trip. At Saltwater Academy I'll show you the proper techniques on how to rig live baits and how to fish with them.

All snapper are always released if out of season.

Saltwater Academy fishes for everything that swims, from redfish and trout in the shallows, to snapper in the deep part of the bays. In the fall and winter we fish for tasty trout and the tackle busters of the winter-- MONSTER BULL REDS!

If you like grouper, let me know, we can do that too!
