Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Happy New Year!!!
It's that time of the year that business is down to a minimum and the fish are hungry. There's a world of fish around the three mile bridge structure in Pensacola Bay; we were up there a couple of days ago using half ounce jig heads with a Big Bite Bait shrimp lure, I think we must have caught 200 fish in three hours, mostly White Trout but we also caught a slot Red Fish, Red Snapper, small Grouper, Black Sea Bass and several other species, man we just had a blast.

It's time for the big female Flounder to make a run at spawning, if you're going to catch a big one it's time. I'm still catching the Flounder in 40 to 60 foot of water around structure that is holding bait. That's the key, if you check a spot and don't mark up any bait schools don't hang around long.

There are still lots of False Albacore to be caught along the beaches. If the weather permits, try your hand at sight fishing for them, this is good practice for honing your skills and is also loads of fun. You'll need a light north wind to lay the surf down then add a little sun light and you're in business. They are being caught on small gold or silver casting spoons.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Red Fish in the same areas. It's the time of the year that the Reds are moving out of the bay back into the Gulf. I'll start spending a lot of time Beach fishing the next six weeks then it will be time for the Sheepshead to start showing up.

I want to apologize for the delayed report; I was out of town for most of the month of December, that's going to be another fishing story, but I'm back and ready for 2009 season to get under way.

May God's blessings be with you all, and here's wishing you a Happy New Year!

Capt. Eddie

I know one thing for sure - You ain't going to catch'em sittin' on the couch!!
