Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

We've performed three instructional Redfish University guide trips in some brutal conditions in the last several days. A 30 degree temp drop and some stiff winds hasn't stopped Redfish U. from providing it's clients with the best inshore instruction available. In fact, sometimes these conditions are the best setting. We've been concentrating in the far reaches of the Pensacola Bay system, familiar to some but productive to few, and where the speckled trout and redfish have actually been in their Winter "pattern" for nearly two months. In addition, our quality speckled trout and redfish are consistently being taken in 1-4' of water, not the deeper holes that attract small, less quality fish. There's a free lesson.;) Each trip produced 40-60 quality speckled trout and 10-20 redfish from 20-35". On Tuesday and Wednesday, we actually surpassed 60 speckled trout with an incredible bite on the front. It is true that we are using a light drop-shot rig special to Redfish University but only in a few very specific and sensitive areas. If you don't understand how, when and why it is used, it's really pointless. It is also a well-known fact that we utilize Berkley Gulp! 5" Jerkshads in camo, Sebile hardbaits/cranks and stay with Bongas early and late. Let's touch on the "slow presentation" during the Winter months. Sometimes but not always; this is determined by species, depth, water clarity, water movement and bottom contour. Now we're on a roll!! For additional material, please visit www.redfishuniversity.com or the Redfish University Facebook page. Sorry for the unconventional report but we find some things very amusing. Heading way south for a long weekend and back with trips Monday thru Saturday of next week. Take care, E Holstman
