Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rain Rain, Go Away, Come Again Another Day!

Well, as you might figure from the title we've had some serious rain over the past two weeks, as has the rest of the country. The Mississippi is at its highest flood stage in the past 20 years. Our rivers are also very high and it's like the Colorado Rapids in Escambia River and Blackwater. With so much rain and the upper bay muddied up, it's pushed a lot of redfish into deep pockets / areas and the bites been off the chain. I've found 4 good areas that have fish like this. Today, 1-6-2016, I bowed up on 35 redfish and it was a lot of fun. I'm going to fish a lot over the next few days, as this may not last long. I wish I had a few clients to take to get them on this awesome bite. I love catching redfish, but it's also a joy watching someone else enjoy it for the first time or just watching them have a good day on the water.

So are you wondering where the trout are? I was, too until today. I found a few areas that were holding very good trout. Wintertime is a very good time to hook up quality trout and the extra rain pushes the trout in deep holes like it has the redfish. I have my cold weather gear ready, and it hasn't actually been too bad once the sun peeks out. I will brave the cold temps regardless, because the bite is on fire!
