Red Fishing is red hot in Pensacola Bay

Capt. John Rivers
December 7, 2010
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Why is the weatherman always wrong? Today it was supposed to be NW with winds at 5 –10 and seas calm to light chop in the bay. Well, let's just say 15 knots and choppy to rough.

Ok, now let's talk red fishing; today it was ok, not great, but we did manage to make some drags scream. I had Josh and his wife April on the boat and they wanted to feel the pull of a monster red. Josh had only caught big catfish from Kentucky, and when he hooked into his first redfish, he was amazed with their pure power.

He kept saying, "Is this guy ever going to stop running?" I said, "When he sees the boat he'll do it again." April had a great time landing her first red, too. It was a tough day finding the reds, but I managed to put them on a few. We fished 3-mile bridge for a bit, trying our luck with some trout. But just as the trout bite started, I spotted a large school of reds working some bait on the other side of the bridge, so I pulled the lines in and headed over to the feeding frenzy. We managed to hook a few more reds to end the trip, which made for a nice way to top off the day.

Till next time.
