Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been two weeks since my last report, so let's backtrack a little and talk about the first two weeks of May. So far it's been a fine month of fishing. The redfish bite has been fair, and we're starting to catch more on the flats and docks. The speckled trout bite has also started to pick up the past few days. The Skipjacks have been plentiful, and they are a lot of fun for kids of all ages. Their acrobatic jumps and drag screaming runs bring smiles to many anglers who want to just have a fun day of fishing.

So if you include the skipjacks, mix in the redfish, and then add in some trout, the inshore fishing has been pretty good. We had a lot of rain back in April and it messed up the fishing some, but it's just now starting to get right again. In about a week or so it's gonna be on fire for all species. We've got two weeks left in May and I've got just a few days left open, but if you're not going to be down here until June, then no worries, June is a great month for specks and reds. Just check out last year's fishing reports. You'll see that it really picked up the last week of May all through June and into July.

If you're wondering what to expect on my trips, you'll get fun light tackle inshore shore fishing. On my trips you have no worries of getting seasick and are always in sight of land.
On any given day, it's just a quick 10 - minute boat ride and you're fishing. Most redfish that we catch this time of year are around 6-8 lbs and the specks range from 15" - 22". Along with speck and reds, we catch lots of skipjacks that range from 1.5 lbs to 3 lbs, and then we'll even get some blue fish mixed in.
If you like tossing artificials for inshore species, then I'm your guy. No dropping cut bait on the bottom waiting for a bite, no trolling offshore waiting hours holding a rod in your hand for that one bite.

You'll be fishing all day on the calm waters of Santa Rosa Sound, Pensacola Bay or Escambia Bay. Areas I know like the back of my hand. Trust me when I say this, with over 40 years of fishing knowledge, you're in capable hands, and I think you'll like my new boat as well. She's a 2015 240LTS Triton Bay Boat with a 250 Verado Pro decked out with all the bells and whistles.
Well, I'm going to cut this report short, so I can get some shuteye for my next early morning adventure.
Fishing is good and it's only going to get better.

What are you waiting for? Give me a shout and let's get you out on a fun fishing adventure.
Tight Lines.. John
