Panhandle Fishing Report - Pensacola Bay & Choctawhatchee Bay

Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Pensacola Bay and Choctawhatchee Bay with Captain Eddie Woodall and Full Net Fishing Charters

Well fellow anglers, it’s that time of the year that we all think it’s just too cold to do any fishing. It just ain’t so!!!! If catching 45 Bull Reds in a day has ever been on your list of things to do, then now is the time. So lay down that deer rifle and bring some warm clothes and lets git-r-done!

I was fishing last Saturday (11/18/06) and this is the 3rd time already this season that I have caught over 40 fish in a day. I had Brian & Joe here from Athens GA. and the fish were hungry. We started catching fish 30 minutes after we started and kept catching fish all day until we had to just stop and head back in. Then, on the way in we ran up on a big school in the bay so we stopped and landed 2 more before we called it a day.

For you Flounder fisherman it has been tough. Several of us guides have been tossing around our own theory of what is going on and this is mine. I think it started back with Ivan and all the other storms we had thereafter. There were a lot of juvenile fish killed off during the surges. Then, last years fall run of fish was awesome, lots of big fish were killed. So in turn, our population of Flounder is down quite a bit. I am catching a few fish here and there but for the most part they are either real nice big fish or small fish, there just don’t seem to be many in-between fish.

The inshore fish are starting there migration pattern to the north. If a nice stringer of Speck’s are what you are after then head up to the north ends of the bays and fish around the mouths of the rivers. Just about any and all artificial baits are catching fish. The slot Red Fish are not moving yet I am catching most of my fish in Santa Rosa Sound to the east of Pensacola Bay. Try on the grass flats and around the docks with soft plastics and small top water plugs. The water is clear and the fish can be very spooky so go slow and make long casts. Don’t be surprised if you hook up a Gator Trout, they are cruising around the flats in search of mullet to fatten up on for the winter.

Good luck fishing and hunting this fall, be safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I know one thing for sure - You ain’t going to catch’em sittin’ on the couch!! So get out there, and take a kid fishing. Tight Lines and Screaming Drags, Till Next Time! God Bless. Professional Fishing Guide Capt. Eddie Woodall Full Net Fishing Charters L.L.C. www.fullnetcharters.com
