Panhandle Fishing Report - Pensacola Bay & Choctawhatchee Bay

Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Welcome back spring time, as most of you know from reading my past reports, May & June are two of my favorite months of the year to be on the water!

Just yesterday I had my clients on the beach looking for the schools of Jack Cravelle and we found two nice pods of Tarpon. For me, this is very exciting and this is the earliest in the season that I have spotted them.

The Speckled Trout are in big numbers on the Santa Rosa Sound grass flats, but a lot of small fish have moved in so catch and release has been what we have been doing alot of here in the last few days. The Red Fish are plentiful and have been real dependable, fish around the docks and for you sight fishermen go to the flats and you will be rewarded. The big Specks are moving in also it just takes patience, stealth and live baits. Just check out this picture of John’s nice Speck. It measured 27 inches long and had a 12 inch girth.

The snapper bite has been just awesome, I fished for snapper last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – we limited out each day in short fashion with nice quality fish, most of the fish were over 20 inches.

I made it out to the Oriskany (the aircraft carrier that was sunk a year ago 22 miles southeast of Pensacola Pass) last Friday and man did we have a blast! We caught 2 – Wahoo, 4 - Mahi – Mahi and our limit of Snapper. It was great; here we are out 22 miles and using the trolling motor to ease us around the wreck pulling live baits for whatever we could find to feed. Tim and his Wahoo.

I still have a few days left in June, but not many and July is starting to get some bookings. So, if you’re ready to experience the great Northwest Florida Panhandle and the Emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico give me a call. It just doesn’t get any better!!!!!!!!!!!

I know one thing for sure - You ain’t going to catch’em sittin’ on the couch!!

So get out there, and take a kid fishing.

Tight Lines and Screaming Drags, Till Next Time! God Bless.
