Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report
November = Bull Red catching in Pensacola and oh yea Thanksgiving.
Well, fellow light tackle anglers, its time!!!!! The Bull Reds have been real consistent the last ten days and man, I've been having a blast catching these fish again. It's one of my most favorite times of the year and one that we've all been waiting on. The leaves have changed and the water temperature is dropping. There's still a good number of pelagic fish around Pensacola Pass and some big ones, too. The Kings and Spanish are on the move to the south, if you go out there expect to get a few lures cut off. But most everyone is in search of the big schools of Bull Reds roaming the emerald green near shore waters of Northwest Florida. If you've ever thought that you'd like to take someone on a fishing trip of a lifetime then now's the time to give me a call. This is one of the most exciting migrations of fish that I've ever seen and we'll catch these fish all the way into April. The top water bite has picked up in the last few days and the fly- fishermen are getting revved up big time. We've been catching good numbers of fish on every trip and the fish are just starting to show up. This is a very good indication that this is going to be a banner Bull Red season!
The next big thing in the happenings around here is the migration of Flounder. Most of the Floundering that's going on is night time gigging. These fish are heading to the Gulf to spawn and hang out for the winter. They are nocturnal and easy to see at night in the shallow clear water with a high powered light hanging off the trolling motor or better yet I've seen some real nice configurations of rotating light fixtures hanging on the front of some boats. Remember the regulations and creel limits are the same as hook and line fishing. It's done by spearing the fish with a gig just like us country boys used to do when we went frog gigging. These fish can be caught on rod and reel in the same areas during the day time using a lead head jig and a Berkley Gulp Shrimp or a good lively Bull Minnow or finger mullet.
Then, if you can pry yourself away from the big schools of Bull Reds and make your way up into Pensacola Bay or Santa Rosa Sound you just might find yourself catching a real nice stringer of Speckled Trout. Try fishing around some of the deeper structure like bridge pilings and oyster beds. Early in the day throw a top water plug like the SPRO Dawg 100 this is a big Trout lure. Another one of my best lures is the soft plastic jerk bait. It imitates an injured finger mullet this is one the Specks main diets right now.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!!
Fishing's not a matter of life and death.... it's more important than that!
I know one thing for sure - You ain’t going to catch’em sittin’ on the couch!!
So get out there, and take a kid fishing God Bless.
