Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore
What a stock of Reds we have here in the Pensacola area. Fished all day Saturday and 1/2 day Sunday with a total of 40 (give or take a few) Bull Reds. All fish caught were released in excellent condition. The fish averaged between 32” and 40”. We caught them trolling Mann’s stretch 25’s in Pensacola pass. Then found them schooling to the east on the beach and caught them on everything we thru at them, top water plugs, bucktail jigs, bomber long A’s, catch 2000s and gold spoons. Man did Bill and his stepson Bud have a great time catching!
Now the colder weather has made the Specks and pup Reds start a definite pattern, holding in the deep holes in the rivers, creeks and bayous. Blackwater and Escambia Rivers have been producing good catches daily. The big Sheepshead are being caught on any structure you can find in the bay using live shrimp. Flounder are being caught on the sand flats around the Pass as a few of them are starting there migration back to ocean. If a 10lb Speck is something you would like to have your picture taken with, then now is the time to do it. February is the best month to catch these trophy fish, just yesterday I was doing some scouting and sighted 4 trout in the 6 to 8 lb. range sunning on the sand flats in Santa Rosa Sound.
Nearshore
The near shore reefs are holding a good number of good Gag and Red Grouper. Last Thursday we caught 6 grouper to 32” and a real nice Red Snapper that only got his picture taken. The Amberjack are in good numbers at the near shore reefs also.
Tight Lines and Screaming Drags till Next Week!Capt. Eddie
