Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore Well, I’m sure I don’t have to point out to any of you the weather has been hit and miss. If you have a good day you’d better take advantage of it. Today the wind is out of the southeast at 25 and gusting, so you guessed it, I canceled for today.
I did get a charter out yesterday. It was a little chilly in the morning with a 10 to 15 wind out of the East, but by 10:00 it had started to slack off and the bite turned on!
We landed 9 Bull Reds and lost a couple more. All caught were released in excellent condition. The smallest was 34” and 17lbs.and the biggest was 42” and 35lbs. We found them in Pensacola Bay- on the north side of the Bay from Ft. Pickens. They were caught using a variety of baits (all artificial). To find the fish you should start out trolling the Mann’s S25 (the blue back and chartreuse belly!) about 75 to 100 feet behind the boat at about 3kts. Once you find the school, you can use the Mann’s Preacher Jigs in the ½ oz. size to cast to them. Make your longest cast and let the jig just fall with a twitch every five seconds or so and hold on! I do this with a spinning outfit consisting of a 7’ medium action rod and a medium size spinning reel spooled with 10lb Power Pro line. I love that Power Pro! Talk about fun, come on down and test your light tackle skills on these big Bull Reds. All were caught in 20 to 30 feet of water. We did get one on the MirrOlure Top Dog in the red head white body. Man, a 20lb. Bull Red chasing a top water plug is awesome! Check out the web-site for updated pictures from yesterday’s charter with Sheldon Ross. I’m sure he is HOOKED on Bull Red catching!
Screaming Drags and Tight Lines till next week!
Capt. Eddie
