Saltwater Fishing Academy goes National!
I'm proud to say that Saltwater Academy has gone national in the first issue of Florida Sport Fishing magazine for 2013.
Saltwater Fishing Academy is a technical teaching style charter that I developed this past summer and it's been a great success for local and out of town guests. It's now a new addition to Florida Sport Fishing magazine and I am proud to be a part of such a great publication. I have been writing for the mag for the past 9 years, I took some time off from the writing scene to concentrate on starting Saltwater Fishing Academy, but now I am back in full swing both teaching and writing. I think you will enjoy the article, so check it out at your local newsstand.
The articles are tutorial in style; and offer how to's on specific fishing methods. This first article covers wintertime bridge fishing; the next one out is going to cover springtime redfish and trout with a little sheepshead mixed in.
The next one after that will cover fall trout and redfish patterns, and, of course, the bull reds of Pensacola Bay in November.
In each article we will cover mostly artificials, because that's my specialty, but for you live bait guys, I'll throw in some live bait tips.
Over my many years of guiding, I get asked a lot about different styles of fishing techniques for specific fish. Since the Panhandle gets a fall, winter, spring and summer, our fishing patterns change and a lot of fish come and go throughout the year. These migratory fish include Spanish, kings, ling, and pompano. Our trout, redfish and flounder are here all year, but how and where we fish for them is varied throughout the different seasons.
If you're looking for a one on one charter and are new to saltwater, or you have been around saltwater all your life, but want to learn a few new things, maybe this is the charter for you.
I hope you go out and purchase the newest issue of Florida Sport Fishing magazine and see what's inside and what Saltwater Fishing Academy is all about. Also take a minute and visit my website as well; it's got tips, great photos and weekly classroom reports.
The site is new and a work in progress, but should be completed by early spring.

Lastly,
I wrote up a report and forgot to add a picture of the infamous drop shot rig.
The drop shot rig is not a new concept, even though some may try and brand it as their own invention. I did a little research and it's been around for over 30 years. I merely mentioned the rig because I've used it for many years, back in Indiana and here as a saltwater fisherman. I wanted to help you the readers see what it was in case you had never heard of it.
I post on here to let you know about what I've catching for the current week and sometimes do a forecast of the week to come. I also give some helpful hints from time to time, and of course, promote my inshore guide business.
I do not try to badmouth or question another guide's techniques or business, and nor will I use this website to derail or talk negatively about anglers or other charters to try to obtain your business.

Here's wishing you a Happy New Year.
Hope everyone had a great 2012, and I look forward to a great fishing year ahead!
John
