Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Walking on the backs of Redfish.
There are so many redfish in Pensacola Bay right now that you could practically walk across their backs from one end of the bay to the other. Every year starting around late October, thousands of redfish migrate into our bays to feed and spawn, and this year I think the number has doubled. I've yet to have a trip where we didn't catch double-digit numbers! Not only are the numbers even greater, it seems like the fish are on steroids, because they are huge!

I have many northern guys who striper fish say, "Wow these guys don't quit!" I tell them that the average fight time on these bronze bruisers is from 5-15 minutes depending upon how big they are. Each trip we've hooked a few that are over 40 inches, and on the past three trips we've caught at least three fish between 42" and 43" long. This awesome fishing should last all winter till spring, but the best times are now through mid January. I can only assume that it will slow down some in January, because when it gets colder out, I honestly don't get out as much.

Since the big reds have shown up in full force, I've put the flats fishing for speckled trout and red fishing on hold. I will run a flats technical trip (SALTWATER FISHING ACADEMY) (www.saltwateracademy.com) if my clients prefer, but as soon as they hear about the big reds, they can't resist. I mean come on, catch a 2 – 4 lb trout or 6 lb redfish or go catch a 18 – 30 lb redfish and not just catch one, but catch as many as you want. I can tell you for a fact that you will need to bring an energy bar and some Ibuprofen for these Monsters! You will go home happy, but whipped for sure.

This November has to be one of the best Novembers in years for catching the big fish. Thank you to my older clients for coming back and thanks to the new ones that have given me the opportunity to show them what red fishing in fall is all about. There is still time to catch a monster redfish if you've never done it before, and if you've experienced it and want to do it again, all you have to do is give me a ring and we'll get you HOOKED UP on a TROPHY RED!

I'll be back out again the next four days, so stay tuned for more exciting drag-screaming action.
Wishing Everyone a Happy Thanksgiving
