Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 1/24/2010 After some crazy cold weather that had fish and fisherman alike needing a break we finally got one. The air warmed up nicely and the water creaped back up above 60 which got our fish moving again and more importantly eating. Trips early in the week were slow but got much better midweek, trout have gone back to there pre iceage potholes giving up some nice slot fish caught on a white redfish majic presented slowly on the sandy bottom. For those that do not like casting as much a live shrimp on a poping cork also worked well, I have not seen as many 3-4 lb trout that were showing up around the new year but they should be back soon.
The wildlife sanctuaries Tarpon Bay and Ding Darling have had some small redfish up to 18 inches, sheepshead and an occasional black drum. Fishing deeper holes with a live or dead shrimp on the bottom is your best bet. We have a cool front coming in this week but not a overly strong one that should get redfish and trout showing up in potholes and transitions of the flats on low tides and roaming the grass on higher water. I am looking forward to getting back to some topwater plugs for bigger reds and trout. Tight Lines Get out and fish!
I will be giving a seminar at Gulf Harbour next week for the Gulf Harbour Fishing Club. For any local groups or clubs that might be be interested contact Capt. Gary
