Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for week ending 4/11, spring break has me fishing all around Pine Island Sound,San Carlos Bay and Matlacha Pass. There have been good numbers of snook around the 27 inch range with oversized fish and a few slot each day, all taken on live shinners. The strong warm south flow has made for higher than normal tides makeing oyster bars and island productive.

I have seen some very nice trout up to 4 lbs fishing potholes in 4-6 ft. of water, live shinners again is the bait of choice the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. There are lots of small male snook around the passes getting ready to head to the beaches. Redfish have been steady but not as good as I would like to see.

Philip Schaeffefer and his daughter from Switzerland pictured on the top and bottom of the page are enjoying some great South Florida fishing. On the days when the wind does die down I am seeing a few tarpon starting to show but no big numbers yet, I believe there here we just need a few light wind days. I still have a few openings for Tarpon available!
