Stormy weather but good fishing

Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 8-10-2010

With our fifth tropical system of the year sitting on us providing three days of steady rain we spent a good part of our days dodging storms. Although I can honestly say it's a welcome break from the heat.

Snook fishing has been slow with the deluge of fresh water runoff. Redfish have been decent with the best fishing on the flood high tides that the stormy weather has provided. Mangrove shorelines and oysterbars have been best.
Seatrout have been suprisingly good with some fish in the 3-4 lb. Range although there are times when they are all just short of slot size. Spotty grass and sand bottom and sandbars on the high tides are the best bet.

Sharks mostly lemons up to around 80lbs. And smaller blacktips have been good in north Pine Island sound.
There are some mangrove snappers around the passes but not the size we had become accustume to in the past couple of years.
Our bait, shinners and threadfins are starting to get to a decent size after weeks of smaller than normal following the last hatch.
