Variety in types of fish and weather

Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 11/29/09 This week gave us a little bit of everything in types of fish and weather. The beginng of the week with mild temperatures and light wind the trout, mackeral, bluefish and pompano were good with the always more than enough ladyfish mixed in.Casting softbaits ( white is best) in 3-6 ft. of water .Tuesday Fishing with James Martens we took advantage of a approaching front and some aggresive fish to catch several slot redfish, a few short snook and some trout fishing potholes with live shinners in the morning. As the day went on with low tides and light winds we had a chance to do some of my favorite fishing throwing topwater plugs, this requires the right conditions and some hungry fish but when it works it is out of this world good. In the next several hours James found that when you do get hit the fish are bigger and there is nothing that gets your heart rate up whether its a hookup or not of seeing a fish blow the plug out of the water. We ended up with a dozen redfish from 3-7 lbs. with one at 9 lbs. 2 3-4 small snook and several trout up to 3 lbs. James has aready said he can"t wait to do it again. Wednesday fishing with John Fox and his two sons in less than perfect weather, these guys found that fishing in rain( in this case warm) can be very productive. The approaching front had schools of small baitfish being attacked by mackeral, bluefish and big ladyfish. John and his boys fished a weather shortened trip with non-stop catching, sometimes three fish at a time casting white softbaits. The next two days with the colest weather since March and strong winds limited us to canal fishing early, with slow bitting fish to a slight warmup at midday catching mackeral, bluefish, trout and few pompano. By the weekend we still had cool mornings but the midday sun would get the fish moving a little better as the day went on. By sunday morning fishing with Mike Pietrowski and his son we caught a dozen small redfish up to 18 inches and a few short snook fishing live shrimp under a popping cork, the afternoon was spent drifting the grass casting jigs for mackeral, bluefish, pompano and a uncountable number of ladyfish to his sons likeing. This was quite a interesting week with all kinds of weather and types of fish with more big fish before the front and lots of action after.
Tight lines get out and fish!
