Windy March Days

Capt. Cliff Simer
March 8, 2012
Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week mother nature has been letting off some steam. With strong winds out of the east it was difficult to fish our open water grass flats. The wind has also turned our waters from clear to coffee colored making it difficult to spot fish. I had to rely on my days scouting fish while the water was clear and a fellow friend Captain Bill Russell to get me back into a rhythm after week of vacation. Every spot we pulled up to we would catch a couple fish and then the bite would shut off. Once the tide slowly worked its way up and we were able to squeeze over the shallow bars to some deeper shorelines. It was the last 20 minutes of the day and guys wanted some reds to fry up with their trout. The first two fish were snook, nothing slot size but these snook must have been hanging out with ladyfish. I havent seen snook come out of the water like these two in quite some time. It was a few minutes later when I saw the line come tight and the pretty boil at the hook. The 18 1/4 inch red added itself to the livewell. The last couple minutes was spent with Spencer landing his 26 1/2 inch red. Its always nice to finish the day like that.

Pine Island Sound Fishing Forecast:

With windy days from the east, from the northeast and every which way, Dont be afraid to put the wind at your back. Pick a shoreline that the wind is blowing into. The fish seem to bite better on these shorelines. This also helps with your casting.
