Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 12/27/09 With Christmas day being the exception its time to get your jackets out to be on the water. Cool days and colder nights have the bay water into the 60s and most of the bait heading south for the winter. This time of year you need to fish slower and lower to get the best production. You can also get out later making the best fishing when the sun is higher during the midday. Slot snook and redfish have been best on the days prior to the fronts cutbait is best. The smaller snook and redfish will bite on the cooler days on live shrimp presented slowly, fishing deeper mangrove shorelines will bring the best results. Mackeral, Bluefish, seatrout and pompano have been steady and should stay that way in the next few weeks, casting softbaits on a jighead or a shrimp under a poping cork is best. Fishing potholes on the lower tides will produce some nice seatrout, a few redfish and a snook here and there with softbaits and top-water plugs. Tight lines, have a Happy and safe new year. I will be fishing!
