Pompano Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

I would like to tell you the fishing lately has been great, but it has been just fair, as it usually is in February. This month has been decent for catching sailfish, but by no means red hot like last year. We have been catching sailfish on just about every trip, but not in the double digit numbers I would like. The good news is March is right around the corner and last year was red hot for sailfish. I think the lack of a good north current is a key factor in the sailfish bite. The other factor could be the lack of good strong cold fronts. Either way the fact is the sailfishing has been ok at best.

Along with the sailfish we have still been managing to catch a few kingfish most trips. The kingfish are not very big averaging about ten pounds. As March and April come around we will see the size and numbers increase. The bright spot on one of our recent trips was a nice mahi. The mahi (dolphin) weighed 28lbs. Boy were we happy and surprised. The mahi ate a live goggle eye fished off the kite.

The slow current has given us a good opportunity to do some bottom drift fishing. We have done well catching snapper and grouper. On one of our trips we managed to catch 5 mutton snapper and some red grouper. Unfortunately we could not keep the red grouper as the season is closed until May 1st.
March is fast approaching and I am already half booked. If this March is anything like last March, you definitely don't want to miss out. Give me a call or send me an email and lets get your trip booked.
