Ponce Inlet - Saltwater Fishing Report
Well it is the end of summer transition month once again. Kids back at school pigfish are perfect for the size snook I like to catch and the flats are smoking hot. We took trout, reds, black drum, mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish on our last trip to the lagoon. The tarpon are rolling in the early in the mud basin. We saw several tarpon crash a mullet this week on the flats. The water came back up and the poons are up and feeding. Drum are skitzed a little from being chassed all over the flats and the reds have been chewing one day and fining the next. Serena Gould displays a nice black drum she caught on the flats.
Off shore has been good for the upper column fish kings, amber jacks and sailfish. Here is a pic of my daughter Sarah and I.
We were getting ready to drop a marker float on one of my live reef spots and Sarah said dad what is that? Sail fish fining on the surface, want to catch him. So we eased up to it went on the bow and pitched a pinfish at him and it was game on. Several jumps dives and headshakes and the spindle beak was boat side. We took a couple quick pics and sent him on his way. Then we got anchored on the spot and I dropped a free lined mullet back on a circle hook I had one thing in mind kingfish. Dropped it in a rod holder and went to rigging a bottom rod. Two minutes later the rod was bent over and line was screaming from the Cardinal 807Abu Garcia Soron like music. Minutes later the forty pounder was boat side. The bottom fishing was a little hit or miss due to the thermals and we will see what is going on after tomorrow's trip. We fished the jetty just goofing one day and caught grouper, snapper and sea bass but nothing big. Think like a fish to catch fish or just call me 386 314 5656 I will be sure you do. Thanks, Capt.
