Port Canaveral - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a great month we had. Both near shore and offshore have been providing plenty of action. This month should be pretty much the same. Mahi may be tapering off but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

NEAR SHORE, Pogies (bunker) have been more consistent to the south down towards Patrick AFB. Get your live bait and fish just outside your bait pods in the 20/30-foot range. Use 50lb mono with a 9/0 circle hook. Steady action on jack crevales, bonitas, tarpon and even cobia. Once you start getting cut off on the mono switch out to your wire rigs for the kings. They have been moving into the beach more frequently and should get much better this month with the warmer water.

OFF SHORE TROLLING, Continue to live bait the reefs and wrecks. We have been keeping very steady on all species. Including sailfish and mahi in less than 90 feet. If the water is right then there's no need to run way out. The edge of the stream has had some nice edges lately too. If you're not far from it check it out. Its roughly 33 miles from the Cape this time of year. Naked bally hoo have been working very well. Try a few chin weighted and a few with the small bullet islanders. Colors vary, try a few to see what's working better.

OFFSHORE BOTTOM, The grouper and amberjack bite has been great. There's offshore wrecks that do well as long as the 21 and 27 fathom areas. Three way swivels with a 9/0 2x circle hook should do the trick. Use large live baits such as pins and croakers. Please be sure to follow the grouper rules and regulations.
Chicken rigging has been decent too for the smaller stuff. Triggerfish and sea bass have been plentiful. Use squid and sardines.
Good luck this month and be sure to check out the tournaments coming up.
