Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

Yesterday Charles Brantley, Earl Ashton, Chet Kitchen, Vicky Gaunt and I fishing the KDW benefit tournament for ARC of Martin County. We department my house at 5:30 in the morning. We broke St Lucie inlet at 6:30 and headed to an area in 50 feet of water where several boats were trying to get live bait. I stayed there about 10 minutes, we weren't having any luck nor did i see any other boat get any bait the fish finder was not showing much as well so we gave it up and headed off shore. Our first destination was the Roosevelt which is in the south east corner of an artificial reef in 70 to 100 feet of water. We trolled around there and then trolled off shore to the trolling reef in 180 feet of water from that area we trolled out to push button hill in 240 to 280 feet of water. We caught 1 barracuda there, After trolling that area for a while I decided to ry the deeper water we trolled ot as deep as 700 feet of water with no strikes We were trolling 7 lines after trolling out there for a while we worked are way back toward shore The seas in the morning wee flat less then 1 foot. but around noon the wind picked up and seas rew to 2 to 3 feet. There were storms popping up bit with the radar I was able to tell they weren't close enough to us to be of any direct concern. but by 2:30 the sky really looked bad and it was clear it wasn't going to happen for our dedicated crew. In the end the total fish count for the tournament was light with only 1 small dolphin weighed in 4.7 pounds and a few king fish. Though we didn't do as well as I would have liked we had a great time and its always great to be on the water I'm sure we will try again next year.
