Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I took a family of 5 out to Club Reef for a bottom fishing trip (3 generations.) The water was unbelievably clear our First spot was in the south east corner of the reef. As I slowly pulled up on the spot, one of the clients said he could see bottom and asked how deep was, the depth sounder said 56 feet. I leaned over the side, and he was right we could faintly see the bottom. I used my I-Pilot and electronically anchored over some structure. There were a lot of grunts with some Lane snapper mixed in. They also caught a bunch of Sea Bass but they were all just short of legal, so the fish were released. They were using Penn 320 level wind reels on ugly stick rods , with the standard chicken rigs with 3 hoods, tied with 3/0 hooks on 50# pink Andy line. I also put a live grunt out on a float and it got hit by a nice barracuda. The bite slowed down so I decided to try a spot in the North West corner about a 1 mile away toward the dock. We continued catching short sea bass and grunts. The grandfather hooked up on something real large. After a nice fight a 7" nurse shark came to the surface. The clouds started building in the west so we headed back to the dock with a very happy crew.
