Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I took a father and son out toward the snapper hole along with a member of the Port ST Lucie Anglers club. In route I saw a large area of bait so we stopped and used Sebeka rigs and got live sardines. The bottom looked great and I was marking lots of fish so I deployed the minkota I-pilot. They were live lining the live sardines using bait runner rods and lever drag reels spooled with 50 pound braid line. The first fish caught was a nice size barracuda. We were in 60 feet of water; sea surface temperature was 84 degrees and the clarity amazing over 30 feet deep. At several times during the day the depth sounder showed fish from the bottom up to the 30 foot line. We had fish on all day long nice Barracudas, King Mackerel, large Bonita, and a 42" Cobia. The Cobia was caught by the fishing club member. The largest Barracuda measured at 52" and was caught by the 13 year old son. Four of the Bonita that was hooked up was hit during the fight, probably by a large bull shark, we ended up with half Bonitos and these were 10 to 12 pound fish. I also caught a nice size Lane snapper on the Sebeka rig. We set one live sardine on the bottom and another at the 30 foot mark and had 2 on the top in free spool. The Cobia hit the bait at 30 feet. By the end of the day the 150 quart cooler was full of fish.
