Florida - South Indian River Report

Capt. Charlie Conner
March 25, 2012
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 25, 2012

Inshore:

Lots of great fishing action around the river this week along the Treasure Coast. March continues in its normal windy fashion, but you can generally find plenty of areas to fish and stay out of the worst of it. We have had a lot of fun this month and the coming week should provide us with lots more fishing adventures on the river.

Trout continued to be our best bite this week. We fished north of Fort Pierce just about the entire week due to the windy conditions and found trout hanging around Queen's Cove, Harbor Branch and Round Island. Live bait or CAL jerk baits have been successful for us. Joe and Henry found enough good sized trout for a nice dinner for the family. We have also found a variety of other species out on the flats as well. Mangrove snapper, bluefish, jacks and ladyfish have kept us busy in between the trout bites. Peter, Will and Henry found a good variety out there on their trip.

We finally got down south to some of the docks and found redfish, flounder and sheephead hanging under some of the docks. Fred and Mike caught five reds along with sheephead and a nice flounder from the docks. The Spanish mackerel have been coming in on the rising tides and filling up the turning basin. Small shiny jigs have helped us to catch some nice sized macks. You can also find lots of jacks around the same area. Sharon hooked into a big jack that took her 30 minutes to bring it to the boat.

The winds will continue for a while longer, but the fishing has been good. Lots of sunshine with some mixed in rain clouds this week have made it wonderful to enjoy the water. Have fun and get out fishing!

As always, remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!!

Good Fishing and Be Safe,
Captain Charlie Conner
