Florida - South Indian River Report

Capt. Charlie Conner
April 10, 2012
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

April 9, 2012

Inshore:

The winds of spring made fishing more challenging this past week, but the fish are out there if you can brave the conditions. Strong winds blew most days and kept us off some of the good fishing flats, but we still caught sea trout along with the many other species that inhabit the river.

Trout was still the main bite, but lots of jacks and bluefish are around the river to bend a rod. Griffin battled two jacks to begin his day on the river. He loves to fish and we enjoyed watching him reel in the fish. I met a lot of great people this week and we had fun around fishing around the river. Most of the trout have come in three to five feet of water. CAL jerk baits continue to produce sea trout along with live baits and top water lures.

The full moon helped the snook fishing, especially at night around the inlets. We did manage to lose a couple of slot sized snook around the sea walls at first light. Live bait, Terror Eyz and top water lures can work great in the mornings. Our redfish bite was a little slower due to the windy days keeping us from some of our favorite spots. It looks like the weather will be good the next week though.

Spanish macks, bluefish and jacks are feeding around the jetties and inlet area of the river on the higher ends of the tides. The flounder bite has picked up around the sand flats of the inlet and the backside of the jetties this past week. Sheephead and some black drum still inhabit the bridges and docks of the river. It has been fun out there!

As always, remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!!

Good Fishing and Be Safe,
Captain Charlie Conner
