Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a one person charter from Indiana yesterday. The ocean was to rough to fish so I switched it to a river trip. We launched at 7:00 Am at Stan Blum ramp and went up to the first manatee sign south of Harbor Branch in 3 feet of water. We have a strong south west wind and incoming tide so the drift was somewhat fast around .8 knots. The water temperature was 71 degrees and clarity was crap as usual in the river. I had live grunts in the live well from a previous trip frozen shrimp and he was casting a 17MR in yellow. I had the live bait rigged on a 3/0 circle hook with 6feet of 30 pound flora carbon leader on lever drag reels. The reels were in free spool with the clicker on. The shrimp was rigged on a small hook on 5 feet of 20 pound flora carbon leader with a small spilt shot 2 feet from the hook and on a small float. The shrimp was unproduced on this trip. We and one really good hit on the live bait, the fish bit just behind the hook leaving us with just the head, it was probably a blue fish based on the way it hit and the bite mark. The Mir-o-lure 17MR produced great as usual. He caught a nice sea trout, Spanish mackerel, lady fish, and some jacks. We got off the water at 11:00 Am with a very happy client
