snook in Ft Pierce

Capt. Mark Rosen

Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished the inlet yesterday in the hunt for snook. We had an outgoing current to start the day, we were using live grunts I caught 2 day earlier on a bottom fishing trip. I used my minkota trolling motor to keep us in the 20 to 35 foot depth level. We were using 50# leader and 5/0 circle hooks with egg sinkers and on 2 rods and fish finder rigs on 2 other rods with 4 ounces of lead. We were drifting along the south jetty with the NE wind I was constantly readjusting to keep us in the deeper water. We got a nice 30" snook early in the day. Further out on the south side almost to the end of the jetty we caught and released a nice Gag Grouper at just over 24". There are a lot of snags in the inlet long with quickly changing depts. Several times I had to bring the boat around to unsnag a line. As the change in current approached the current slowed down and things were very quiet. When the incoming current started running in we tried several places including the rips at the mouth of the inlet but no luck. We saw 1 other grouper caught and that was pretty much it for the day.
