Soggy South Indian River Fishing Report

Capt. Charlie Conner
August 21, 2008
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

August 21, 2008

All water activity ceased this week as Tropical Storm Fay dumped rain and wind throughout the East Coast of Florida. I hope that everyone fared well and is recovering from all the wet weather. It will take a while for the river to get back to normal and not many anglers will be venturing out for a few more days. Be careful as you begin to head back onto the water and watch for debris and hazards around the river as you go.

The water will be dirty and fishing will be difficult for now. A few tips to try are:
1. Use flash in the murky water. Spoons or light color lures will give you an opportunity to attract fish. DOA Glow Shrimp are great choices along with gold or silver spoons.
2. Add noise to your lures. Top water when possible in the mornings creates noise to attract fish. Add rattles to soft baits to give them an extra advantage in the water. Popping corks with live bait are great ways to fish and create that needed clatter.
3. Look for clean water. Find clean water and you will most likely find fish. Some areas seem to clean up quicker than others. Watch areas like Bear Point, Round Island and the Power Plant flats.

It will be a challenge for the next week, but fishing can be good if you work at it. Be cautious and safe out there. Hopefully next weeks fishing report won't be quite as SOGGY!

Remember, as always, that fishing is not just another hobby......it's an ADVENTURE!

Good fishing and be safe,
Captain Charlie Conner
