We have had a variety of weather patterns recently. You can tell that we are gradually shifting into the fall season of the year. Wind, rain and thunderstorms have been around most days this week, so you need to check the weather and plan your fishing around it. A few days has been a real challenge for us!
Fishing has been great one day and slow the next this past week. Anthony and his son, Michael, had one of those great days of fishing. Michael caught his first slam of a redfish, snook and sea trout. Anthony finished off the day with several nice sea trout. Jeff and Rocky were down on some rainy fishing days. The first day we ended up getting off the water early to avoid the certain cloudbursts that were moving in on us. We found some nice trout on the second day. Weather can make it challenging some days out there!
Sea trout have been hanging around sand bars and drop offs around the river this week. DOA shrimp, top water or live baits can help you find where they might be feeding on any given day. Michael caught his redfish while fishing the mangroves in the river. We have also found some in the shallow flats as well. Snook can be found around docks, sea walls and along the inlets of the river. You might also try some of the spillways around the area with all the recent rains running through them. DOA Terror Eyz, Bait Busters and live baits are great when fishing for snook.
The mullet run has been getting underway. Lots of finger mullet have been flooding into the river and you can bet the fish will be feeding on them. It's a great time of year to fish top water lures in the mornings for some exciting action. Snapper and sheephead are still around the channel edges, docks and bridges of the river. The beach will be holding whiting. Fish the bait pods along the surf and you can find jacks, snook and many other fish that are chasing them. It's a fun time of year.
