Warm weather combined with light winds and overcast conditions made for very good fishing this week in Pine Island Sound. I had a full week of trips and had many familiar faces on my boat as well as a few first time clients.

The fog covered the bay every morning this week so many of my trips were pushed back to 10:00am. However, the tide was better as the day progressed so it was actually to our advantage. The main species targeted this week were redfish and trout.
Live shrimp and Berkley Gulp Jerkshads in Watermelon Neon color were the "go to" baits. On Friday, we caught close to 50 redfish with 90% of them by way of Gulp. The fog never lifted all day and a low pressure system was moving through the area and the fish were very aggressive.

A lot of fish showed up on the full moon this past week. On a glass calm day everywhere you look there are redfish and trout pushing "V" wakes across the flats. Our fishery is very healthy right now and I believe we are in store for spectacular redfish fishing in years to come. I have never seen as many 16-17" redfish as I have this year. My personal opinion is that due to the snook kill last year, a lot of the 3-6 inch redfish aren't being eaten by the snook in creeks, canals, and on the flats. I could be wrong but I have a strong feeling that I am right.
The forecast for the next few weeks looks the same. Redfish and trout are going to continue to be the targeted species and the temperatures should slowly increase.

Tight Lines and I hope to fish with you soon!
