Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report
Weather was once again the primary factor this week when it came to angling success. Fishing was good early in the week with clients experiencing steady action on speckled trout, bluefish, and ladyfish at Marina Jacks, Radio Tower, and Middlegrounds. Bass Assassin jigs fooled most of the fish. Bottom fishing structure in Big Pass using live shrimp produced sheepshead, mangrove snapper, and gag grouper. It was warm with light breezes. The wind picked up on Tuesday as a front approached and then moved through, bringing rain and wind.
Gil Fitzgerald from Chicago, IL and his friend Michael had a good charter on Sunday. We started off at Marina Jacks, catching ladyfish steadily on New Penny Bass Assassin jigs. A move to big Pass resulted in a few sheepshead, but the tide was moving a bit too fast. We finished up at the Middlegrounds, catching a half dozen bluefish and more ladyfish.
Sarasota resident Mike Kirby, friends Tom and George, and grand son Dan had a very good trip as well. The action was steady at the Radio Tower, with the boys catching a lot of ladyfish along with some speckled trout. We moved to Big Pass and caught the tide perfect, as it slowed to switch and turn back in. Sheeshead to 3 pounds, mangrove snapper to 12", and gag grouper kept us all busy. We ended the trip at Marina Jacks with a few more ladies.
Ashley Weber, an art student at Ringling, fishing the Myakka River with me on Wednesday. Once again, the water was high and fast, and the fishing tough. We hooked a couple of small snook and that was it. The weather was bad on Thursday and Friday. Scott and Vikkie Bralow gave it a try on Saturday. We left and 10:00 and it started drizzling shortly afterwards. The water was filthy and there was a lot of rain coming, so we decided to head in.
