Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing was good this week on the deep grass flats and in the passes this week. Tides were very good later in the week as we approached the "super moon" and the bite was very good. Ladyfish were plentiful throughout the area, with speckled trout, bluefish, gag grouper, and Spanish mackerel mixed in. Most of the fish were caught by clients casting Glow/chartreuse and red/gold shiner Bass Assassin 4" Sea shad baits on a 1/4 ounce jighead. Big Pass, Middlegrounds, and Stephen's Pt. were the top spots. I caught bait on a couple of charters and had fair action on snook, jacks, and snapper near Siesta Key.
I ran a trip early in the week, leaving CB's Saltwater Outfitters and headed north. Trout, gag grouper, and ladyfish hit jigs at Marker #5, then we headed to Big Pass and had fast action on big ladyfish. I caught some bait and we finished up in Robert's Bay, landing small snook, jacks, and snapper.
Joe Robinson and his wife from Chicago, IL had a good charter on Thursday. Ladyfish and bluefish provided good action at the MIddlegrounds and it was very fast in Big Pass. We used bait in search of snook but only caught a couple of jacks and snapper.
Sarasota resident Jim Crouse and three buddies joined me on Friday morning. The bite was steady all morning with the fellas catching a bunch of ladyfish at the Middlegrounds. A move to Stephen's Pt. produced speckled trout to 17" and more ladyfish. Bass Assassin jigs fooled them.
I finished up my week with Sarasota resident David Schirmer and his buddy Tom. The bite was good early at the Middlegrounds, with a lot of ladyfish and a couple of blues hitting Bass Assassin jigs. A move to Stephen's Pt produced trout to 17", gag grouper, and more ladyfish. Fellow CB's guide Kelly Stillwell called me with news of a hot bite off of Longboat, so we ran over and ended the trip with fast action on blues and ladies.
