Fishing continues to be quite productive on the deep grass flats near both Big Pass and New Pass. Bait is EVERYWHERE!! I saw birds working in Robert's Bay as well as in the normal spots near the passes. Catching it is easy and anchoring up-tide of a good grass flat and chumming resulted in steady action on a variety of species. Speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, black sea bass, jack crevelle, ladyfish, and more were landed on charters this week. The Middlegrounds, Radio Tower, Stephen's Pt., and Marina Jacks were all productive spots for me this week.

I just got home from a long vacation and was back out on the water on Tuesday. Todd Grandin, his dad Mike, and friend Chuck experienced steady action all morning. We started off at Stephen's Pt casting live shrimp under popping corks, catching trout and ladyfish. It slowed after a bit and I caught bait and anchored up at the Middlegrounds. Action was vistually non-stop for a while, with the bost catching more trout, Spanish mackerel, jack crevelle, gag grouper, mangrove snapper, sea bass, ladyfish, and more.

Ellen and Loel Stein from Uniontown, OH had a very productive charter on Thursday morning. Bait was easy and for the first 2 hours we sat at the Middlegrounds, getting a bite on almost every cast. Mackerel, trout, snapper, sea bass, ladyfish, and grouper kept the rods bent. We had similar success at the Radio Tower and Marina Jack flats.

Bob Siemering from Boston, MA took a couple of his partners out on a charter on Friday. Action was steady throughout the morning as the boys landed speckled trout to 18", Spanish mackerel to 2 1/2 pounds, mangrove snapper to 12", gag grouper to 16", and ladyfish free lining live pilchards and threadfins. Middlegrounds and Marina Jacks were the top spots. We finished up in Phillippi Creek, trying for a snook or jack, but only caught a few small snappers.

I finished up my week with a VERY productive trip with Chris Bauer and his 13 year old son Christian. Bait was easy and we sat at Marina Jacks for almost three hours, catching speckled trout to 22", Spanish mackerel to 3 1/3 pounds, snapper, grouper, sea bass, ladyfish, and sail cats. Christian had a veryt large fish on for several minutes before the hook pulled, I think it was a big cobia. Great way to wind up a good week of fishing!
